Dolores at West Edge Opera

  • Oakland Scottish Rite Center Oakland (map)

Dolores, composed by Nicolás Lell Benavides, libretto by Marella Martin Koch, is the first full length commission that was created and developed through West Edge Opera’s Aperture Program. The opera takes us on the personal journey of Chicano Civil Rights activist and icon Dolores Huerta, her tireless work alongside Cesar Chavez, Larry Itliong during the Delano Grape Strike, and her advocacy to get Robert F. Kennedy elected. With the assassination of Senator Kennedy, the nation lost a leader, the movement lost an ally, and Dolores lost a friend.
